The blades of vengeances have fallen swiftly. The shinobi are no more as 'Absolute Justice' has returned...now, it is the Samurai that rule the Five Major Nations!
But at what cost? Have they become the very thing that they despised the most...? Heroes and villains seem to change roles every day, but one thing is for certain - we yearn for our freedom, for days gone by where we flew the skies unhindered.
Elsa liked the optimistic nature of the group. One decided to try finding a way out, one decided to help her, and yet another just sort of sat there looking kind of crazy. Perhaps he was having trouble registering what was happening? Well that didn't matter much. Elsa performed a flurry of handseals and placed her hands against the nearest wall she could find. It only took a few seconds to cover the whole surface in ice which would ideally make the metal brittle enough to break under enough force. "Your move Shin," she would say as she maneuvered back a few feet. D-block gave another unsuspecting lurch downwards. They had to escape soon, else they be dropped to their doom!
Kyuusoku Touketsu (Quick Freeze) Rank: A Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m), Far (10m+) Type: Supplementary Handseals: 6 Chakra Consumption: High
Kyuusoku Touketsu is a Ninjutsu technique which utilizes the Ice Element. After performing a string of handseals, the user sends out a burst of chakra that flash freezes the terrain around them. Because of the unnatural coldness of the ice, it will not be effected by local temperatures unless they are in extremes, such as the desert during the day.
Note: Freezing range is 30 meters. This jutsu does not create any new terrain of any kind but rather freezes whatever inorganic material is nearby. Some terrain types (lava, heated water, unnatural terrain) cannot be frozen in this way.
Under different circumstances, Mirai would have had no reason to suspect Natsumi’s motives. However his presence alone was foreboding. If he was friendly, he had clearly made it past the poison weaponry and was fast enough to catch up to her, somehow. But that was the least of her worries. It really didn’t matter whether this guy meant to kill her or was just some lucky fool who had miraculously waltzed this far unscathed. She had bigger things to worry about.
“Listen here,” she would start as a cacophony of screams could be heard back from an earlier part of the cave. Something had happened to the remaining survivors. “Yes I was on the boat. Those of us that were at least somewhat capable of fighting decided to explore and ended up getting fucked over by traps. I was the only survivor and ended up running into that puppet (the man’s body). Someone is guarding this cave for reasons better explained on my map. For all I know, you’re the enemy. Follow me and this might get deadly.”
Mirai would throw her knife at your chest and aimed several lightning bolts at you over the course of a second. With her opponent supposedly distracted, she tossed a tag several meters behind her and blew a hole through a wall just large enough for a person to fit through. If she could just deal with this guy quickly, maybe she would have time before anyone or anything caught up.
THUD… THUD… THUD… the sound and vibrations started out slow, but would eventually get closer and faster. Sure they had some time, but the two adventurers wouldn’t have much of it.
Danpen Inazuma (Shooting Thunder) Rank: C Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (0m ~ 5m) Type: Offensive Handseals: - Chakra Consumption: Mid
Meant more as a reactionary technique than a main avenue of offense, this jutsu allows the user to essentially shoot out small lightning bolts from a free hand to anyone within a small range. This requires no seals to conjure, and can be shot out from one’s appendage during the most heated of combat. The damage is light and the bolts shoot off in a relatively straight line, at rapid speeds.
Your fireball tears through the strings, triggering the rest of the weaponry to fire. After the metallic storm subsided, you dashed into a new part of the cave which was quite well lit by sunlight which permeated the cracked ceiling. You soon approach and pass a dead man’s body but couldn’t figure out much about how he was killed. Not that it mattered much, since you quickly caught up to the killer.
A woman in a crimson red tunic with matching hair was moving as fast as she could through the many artificial corridors which comprised a maze of sorts. She was slowed only by her need to look at the large map she held. However she had been much too hasty and loud. Having not expected to be followed, she was surprised to turn around at a dead end and see you approaching from approximately 10 meters away. The 5’ tall woman would stuff the map into her shirt with one hand and she pulled out a large knife with the other. She would remain speechless but her intent to kill would be clear. Sparks jumped from the blade which implied that she had some proficiency in lightning ninjutsu.
The group’s efforts of staving off the samurai had proved to be relatively pointless. The structural integrity of D-block was compromised somehow and the ice princess found herself doing her best to dodge flying bodies and metal. Aside from getting slammed right in the stomach, she seemed to be alright albeit winded. There was little nothing Elsa could do but clamber over the wounded and try to regroup with the others before she could be caught off guard. One thing was clear, they weren’t escaping through the elevator. So what would they do?
“We could always try blowing a hole through the wall,” Elsa would offer. If she knew anything about shinobi it was that some of them packed enough force to level an entire building. How hard could it be to go through the side? “If ya’ll are down I can lower the temperature and perhaps make the walls brittle enough to break with enough force.” Of course, if this idea wasn’t plausible or ideal, Elsa was down to try anything at this point. They needed to get out of here before this thing dropped to the ground. Who knows, the samurai might figure killing them all off would be easier than trying to traverse all the rubble.
So much had happened so fast that Elsa was left standing around, useless as ever.. Her own attacks had been so ineffectual that she was impressed that the shinobi were able to down the behemoth. The concussive blast to his head had been enough to send him into a literally blind fury. That combined with the sliced appendage left him completely helpless as he crashed into the ground spewing dark blood everywhere. Feeling the hot liquid splash on her dress, Elsa turned to see several more dead bodies that weren’t there before. Who had killed them?
What was more, the sword wielder had informed the bunch that more were approaching. Elsa’s fight or flight reflexes kicked in and she just wanted to run far away. She was completely outclassed by this level of enemy and if others were coming then she wanted out. This feeling was exacerbated by the distant shriek “Samurai! Retreat!” was heard. But it was too late. The samurai would enter the village shortly. There was no running from these speed demons.
The ninjutsu users would have enough time to exchange a few thoughts and perhaps take better positioning for the inevitable fight. “What… What do we do?”
“It looks as though Ninjutsu was used here,” Nao said to her subordinates, twenty in total. “Surround the village and make sure nobody escapes. We will torch this place to the ground.” Lawful in nature, Nao was disgusted by the chaos that was presented before her. How dare these renegade shinobi tear down the order the samurai had worked so hard to build up over the years. ”At least I’ll be able to end these lowlifes here and now."
You find that your choice to send a kunai into the darkness was a wise one. As soon as the weapon took flight, it would begin to slice through strings so thin they might as well have been invisible in the dim lighting. In any other circumstance, the existence of the strings would have gone unnoticed but the slight vibrations that they gave off were picked up by your innate senses. In any case, the cut strings triggered weapons to fly out of the holes they were connected to. Even pressing your foot forwards a little triggered several needles to fly dangerously close to your neck. Upon further experimentation it would be clear that once a string was broken, its respective weapons would not fire again.
Perhaps there was some way of clearing all the threads in one go, or it might be possible to try figuring out which threads had already been cut. As you come to the conclusion about how you’re going to go about passing this obstacle, you hear a man’s cry of anguish. The sound lasted for a split second before ending quite suddenly. Footsteps not very far away could be heard and would be possible to catch up to if the strings could be traversed quickly. If a slower approach was to be taken, the footsteps would fade but the opportunity to investigate the man’s fate would present itself.
Advancing into the cave, it would be clear that others had woken up before you and decided to proceed further. This would be evident by the drying footprints along the stone floor along with the fact that there was a man sitting at a table. The strong taste of poison would make its way to your snake’s tongue as you realize that this man was dead. A large rusty bolt had made its way right through the poor bastard’s chest, surely an indication there was something special about whatever was on this table. However on further inspection there would be nothing aside from scraps of paper that followed a set of footprints leading further into the cave.
Continuing further, the familiar smell of poison would once again coat your tongue and the feel of needle-like objects littered the floor. Only the dimmest of light remained from the cave entrance, but it would be clear to see that this passageway had been heavily booby trapped. Holes littered the cave walls, ceiling, and floor for at least 15 meters. But there were no bodies. At least one person had continued forwards, could you do the same?
Perhaps several successive shunshin would be in order, but would it be fast enough to avoid all injury? Or would you choose a safer, more creative solution?
The storm came quickly. So quickly that it was as if Poseidon himself had risen from the ocean’s depths in a fit of rage. Ships tried desperately to turn back to shore lest they be capsized by the titanic waves that thrashed against a populous port. Screams and cries might as well have been nonexistent in the howling winds which made it near impossible to navigate through the blinding rain. With an ominous crackling sound that dwarfed the winds in comparison, an unfortunate ship found itself crumbling against the rocky shore.
Fate would only spare a handful today. Those lucky enough to be washed into a concealed grotto would be the only ones lucky enough to survive. Barely.
You find yourself slumped against a log that happened to make the journey with you. The exit would be clearly identified as a large hole in the ground which was filled with water. Reflected sunlight shone brightly through the hole signifying that it wouldn’t be a long swim to the surface should you need to escape. Leaving might not be in your best interest, however. Upon further inspection, the cave would look fairly worn. It would be clear that this was a place that had at some point been frequently used. Will you be brave enough to venture into the unknown?
Hey guys, I'm going to be doing a high rank random encounter for Mamushi and figured I could open it up to several more people if they're interested. The overall story will be the same, but the participants will be in different threads taking different paths to the prize. There will be some level of NPC combat and will be death enabled, but it won't be super hard given the rank. This will be GM'd by me along with Naitome. Please post here if you're interested; we will be taking first come first serve!
Rewards: -Exp depending on performance. 0 Will be rewarded if you drop out or 'fail' (unlikely) as per random encounter rules. One of the following: -Treasure -'Left over' Treasure and a low ranked follower -No treasure, but a higher-ranked follower
Note: I'm still figuring out the rewards since no reward value was specified in the RE thread. I'll make sure to notify participants if they change drastically
Requirement: The purpose of opening this up is to get some members involved in some rp if they happened to miss joining the site-wide event. Therefore, you cannot be participating in the 'Escape from Anchor' event. Mamushi is exempt from this requirement since I was going to do this for him regardless.
Elsa’s introduction had seemed to spark others to announce their presence. Everybody and their mother started shouting their names, most noticeably a crazy sounding man from the back. Perhaps it was just the boost the shinobi needed to overcome the samurai. It wasn’t long before one of the men closer to her, Shin, decided to join the fray but looked uncertain about where they should go. It was a good question to ask and it seemed like Naitome’s plan was to go to the elevator.
It was a good plan, Elsa had to admit, but they’d have to fight through these many hoards of samurai. While that probably wouldn’t be a problem for these ninja with their fancy techniques, Elsa stood dumbfounded as two samurai quickly approached her. She could tell just by their speed that they wouldn’t be as easily dispatched as the boy she had to deal with a few minutes ago. They moved so fast, in fact, that the vertical slashes caught her offguard and ended up slicing right through the first layers of her dress as she stumbled backwards.
Elsa brought her hands together to form more seals, but these samurai were now very conscious of her abilities and wouldn’t even give her the chance. They sliced constantly at the aging princess as she did her best to make sure nothing more than her regal garb was torn to shreds. Through much effort, Elsa was finally able to form two handseals which allowed her to leap backwards and simultaneously toss a wind bomb at each of her assailants. In the dim lighting, the technique was essentially invisible and resulted in a loud BANG sound as the samurai were blasted back towards the entrance. It was a weak technique, but Elsa was just trying to make some room to breathe.
Looking over to her allies, Elsa found that Naitome was some kind of expert at physical arts as he defeated multiple opponents at the same time. How did the samurai ever capture this guy…
Kaze Bakudan (Wind Bomb) Rank: D Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m) Type: Offensive Handseals: 2 Chakra Consumption: Low per 2 shots
Kaze Bakudan is a Ninjutsu technique which utilizes the Wind Element. After performing two handseals the user creates a highly condensed ball of wind, about the size of a baseball, in the palm of their hand. It can be thrown, and upon contact with a solid object will detonate in a concussive explosion one meter in diameter.
Note: The explosion is the most powerful at the site of detonation. This technique was created by Addy.
Elsa barely had enough time to gauge how large this man truly was before the smoke cleared. There was sudden movement to the side, which turned out to be a girl that had somehow gotten her hand stuck on the ice. "What in the world is that attached to her hand," the princess would wonder as she turned her head turned back to the titan. What she saw prompted her to yell at the top of her lungs, "Look out!!!"
The titan had likewise noticed the teenager and had picked up a flaming wooden plank. With a hearty grin he threw the flaming mass at Kaeda who would have to do something fast! Elsa cursed herself for not being able to help, but she had other things to worry about. The gargantuan had turned his attention back to the pair and the now visible dead bandit. His grinning face turned furious in an instant as he yelled “Archers to my position!”
After shouting his command, the large man would stomp on over towards Elsa and Inu and start swinging wildly in an attempt to crush them with his immensely powerful blows. Elsa found it trivial to perform a single handseal and grab at Inu in an attempt to pull him with her as she got out of the way. Chakra now lined the bottom of her shoes allowing her to nimbly slip out of the danger zone and get in a few strikes to the enemy’s rock hard legs… not that they did any noticeable damage. Hopefully one of the others packed more of a punch. "What happened to Inu’s eyes? This town is full of oddballs…"
Should anyone have been paying close attention, the sound of careful footsteps could be heard as three archers approached from different directions and took aim at Elsa and Inu. Perhaps it was good that they had arrived; nobody would be keeping watch. Nobody would see the samurai that were approaching the village…
For most of the trip's remainder, Elsa kept quiet and to her thoughts. She took out a piece of paper and started writing a little as well. Elsa didn't want to admit it, but just walking through this town and seeing the way the shinobi were living didn't sit right with her. It was enough for her to want to investigate further and potentially find out what they were doing with the extremely powerful shinobi to keep them in check. Before long, the two ended up at the docks which Elsa was thankful for. Unfortunately, she wouldn't be going home just quite yet.
"You're right. I was naive and I feel there is a lot I'm still missing out on. I have decided to make a trip to a shinobi prison and try to figure out what they are doing to keep your kind in check. If I can figure anything out then I'll send word. It's the least I can do for helping me out these past couple of days."
Elsa would hand out her hand which would be holding a small piece of paper with her signature and a note that would hopefully excuse Orca from any trouble he had gotten into. She would then listen to whatever else Orca had to say before heading off to the docks. She would get the whole warehouse situation sorted out and then head on out to the wind country.
On the trip, she took out a package she had found on a previous adventure and opened it... link
It didn’t take long for Elsa to finish dealing with the boy who feinted after being scratched on the face for the hundredth time. Never in her life as a princess had she been subject to such brutal measures just to stay alive and she wanted nothing more than to escape. Warmth rushed into her chest the moment she saw guards pouring into the room only to realize that her hands were covered in blood. If she didn’t speak up, she would probably going to get killed. If she did, then the prisoners would probably use her as a hostage. No matter how she looked at it, she was fucked.
“I’m Elsa, from Snow.” The words would be almost shouted so that everyone in the room could hear. The name didn’t appear to click with the samurai and there was no way the ninja would know anything about her. “Well,” she would murmur as she stepped closer to the three most prominent prisoners, “I guess my get out of jail free card doesn’t work around here.”
It was a relief, really, that she was a stranger here. She didn’t have to hold back or uphold her appearance. It was time to see what she could really do with her powers. Several handseals were performed in a blur of movement as Elsa situated herself a few feet behind and to the left of Naitome. Moments later, ten small birds made of ice would crystallize out of thin air before flying straight towards the guards. Hopefully this would buy the others some time to do their thing. They were in the middle of the desert, after all, so her ice abilities weren’t going to be of much use once they got outside.
Tsubame Fubuki (Swallow Snow Storm) Rank: D Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m) Type: Offensive Handseals: 4 Chakra Consumption: Low per 10
Tsubame Fubuki is a Ninjutsu technique which utilizes the Ice Element. After completing the required handseals, the user summons forth 10 swallows comprised entirely of ice, which are about the size of a normal shuriken. The user launches these birds at the opponent; they are capable of doing major piercing damage should they hit. Unfortunately, the swallows are highly susceptible to fire.
