The flying bunshin began its seals several moments ago, and upon completion –which was at the same time the wave shot forth- the purpose of the seals became unraveled with numerous explosions that roared in the distance. The clone imbued the senbon in the grounds with the explosive blessing ⁴. All twenty senbon exploded in a twelve meter radius, tearing into the surroundings and the earth’s. Masuyo moved beneath the earth, and perhaps the chakra sensing abilities allowed him to evade the explosions – that all depended on his positioning. Certainly he will sense the senbon, as they were imbued with chakra, but the explosion was something he could not sense – except perhaps a slight increase in the chakra they held, a fine detail. Five shuriken of paper, each ten meters wide, rushed forth from the clones figure and descended into the mist. The shuriken flew in an arc, a five meter distance between each of them. These shuriken could only cause minimal harm, but damage was not their purpose. Rather, the clone listened for a sound – any sound of a shuriken connecting with the massive bear. Already after their first second of flight, the shuriken were imbued with the defensive property that made them resistant to the flames.


The two clones standing on the ground completed their techniques, but the effort was futile, for the fierce flames burned the Shikigami’s parchment – both what they created and the clones themselves. Not only did the first wave burn the clones and their creation, but also the balls of paper wrapped around the kunai at the edge of the mist. The flying close was at a height of fifty-five meters and therefore out of the waves reach.

During his flight, Jiyuu espied that macabre happening. He had not yet reached the full height of his flight. At forty meters, the Hokage was exposed, but had some moments to prepare before the first wave finally struck – he only knew that preparation was necessary due to seeing the clones burned so swiftly. Previously, the foe was wise to cover the skies with flames. Likely, this was no different. Moments before the first wave connected with Jiyuu, a thin wall of paper rose before him ¹, beginning at the head. Unfortunately it covered only five feet, and therefore the lower half of the Hokage’s legs were exposed. He groaned in pain as the heated wave burned the legs. In a last, desperate attempt at protection, he pulled the legs up, wings still beating to keep him afloat. The wall was durable enough to prevent the Hokage from being knocked back. The second wave struck, gradually burning through the wall created by the desperate defensive maneuver. It lasted just long enough to protect from the second wave. Unfortunately for Jiyuu, the damage of the first heat wave scarred his legs. On a more positive note, due to the wall covering his face, Jiyuu suffered from neither the trouble with breathing nor the teary eyes. Walking, though, would be rather painful – thankfully the man could fly.

Jiyuu completed his ascension to a height of fifty meters, and by that time, the seal less technique reached completion. A layer of paper armor covered his body in entirety, ² protecting both from physical strikes and the elements of water, fire, and lightning. To a limited extend of course. As the armor was forming, Jiyuu’s hands moved in a flash to form something seen before, five paper grenades no larger than a fist. They descended simultaneously. As this was paper originating from Jiyuu’s body, he could sense its movement, guide it even in the mist. Of course he had no means of knowing what was in the mists. The flying clone pointed into the general direction of where the roar was heard. All five grenades descended rapidly I a line. The first was erupted after two seconds, the second after three, the third, fourth and fifth after three seconds, each an explosion with a radius of twelve meters- hopefully it had time to reach the area from which the roar was heard. Jiyuu nor the clone could pinpoint its exact origin, therefore the grenades flight was largely approximated. If of course one of the Shuriken connected, and the bear yelped out in pain, the position would be even easier to approximate. With the bears enormous size, Jiyuu was certain that at least one of the grenades could hit its target. Upon their creation, he began a new set of hand seals.

As his fingers wove, he roared loudly,”Let us end this fight. There is no use in continuing. We will simply continue and continue. Instead, I have an offer. Let us end this, truly. We have destroyed so much of this city but barely touched one another.”

[/i] The Hokage hoped that the series of explosions that rung in the mist, twenty five in total, would help to persuade the fierce, bear tamer.

Something was afoot. The ground rumbled. Jiyuu could not see the beast, but thankfully he felt the shaking of the earth’s caused by the fearsome bears run. A beast so massive surely had that effect. Immediately upon sensing that, Jiyuu’s hand entered the dance of seals, completed after only half a second . He rose directly upwards, wings carrying ¹ his lithe figure at ten meters per second. Keeping distance was his only chance at survival. As he rose, he reached into his pouch and pulled forth six kunai, each tagged. He simply let paper flutter forth from his body and wrap around each one of them. The kunai, covered in paper, darted towards the fog.

The beast smelled Jiyuu, but he did not know. The Hokage considered flying high into the skies the only option, for he could see neither foe. While he could feel Namyeol’s movement, the man was uncertain why that bear was even here and whether it’s existence depended on Masuyo. Flying high was his only option. The mighty bear smelled Jiyuu, but not the clone standing on the outskirts of the mist directly in its path. The clone, too, took several steps back simultaneously with Jiyuu’s initiation of the hand seals that caused the wings to grow. That clone’s hand seals reached completion as it was eleven meters from the outskirts of the fog. But it held the seals, waiting for something to reveal itself. Likely, that bunshin would be the first thing revealed to the bear once it stepped through the fog The bunshin had something in mind.

A second clone stood twenty meters to the left of the aforementioned one. With the completion of its seals, which already begun some time ago, a large mass of paper fluttered forth from its body into the cloud. These papers turned into twenty senbon ², each 10 meters long and five meters wide, darting directly towards the center of the mist as they spread over an area of . It did not know whether Masuyo was still there, or even if he was alive. But should he chose to rise from the earth’s, unbeknownst to the Hokage or his clones, the senbon were eager to impale him as they rushed in from above towards where the summoner stood previously, position pointed out by the flying bunshin. Even if he does not rise, the senbon will tear several meters into the earth. That clone, too, hand something in mind for it held the tiger seal.

The third clone, the one hovering above the battlefield on wings, also targeted the center of the battlefield, still covered by mist. Position of Masuyo still in its mind before the mist spread the area, it send forth two thin sheets of paper, completely inconspicuous. As they were guided blindly, their flight was not exact. The first sheet landed five meters to the left of where Masuyo previously stood and the second landed seven meters to the right. These pieces of parchment triggered automatically ³ if one comes within two meters to erupt into a twelve meter explosion. This clone, too, held a single seal.

At the end of his flight, Jiyuu reached a height of fifty meters. This foe was truly formidable. With each passing moments, the Hokage's chance of victory lessened. For he was pushed back ferociously. Fortunately, the kunai wrapped in paper reached the outskirt's of the fog, hovering where the first clone stood previously. (The one towards which the bear was charging directly)

Description: The Rising Spear is yet another advanced use of Paper Dig. After the user has allowed sufficient paper to enter the ground beneath, he performs a series of hand seals. Upon completion, the paper transforms into spears which shoot upwards, extending to their full height before dispersing into numerous sheets of paper.

The titan stood at fifty meters high and the spikes descended from seventy meters. Hence, they took scarcely over two seconds to reach the target. Part of that time was used to camouflage both the bunshin and the spikes, but that took but half a second. Jiyuu’s seals reached completion moments after the first spike struck. As the massive spike began to fall, something began to stir – the true horror of the Shikigami’s abilities revealed in full. The rain was no simple descend of paper anymore, no, it was much worse. As the two spikes struck the titan’s chest, they exploded, each a fierce twelve meter eruption ¹. As those two spikes already reached the chest level, others also had the time to descend. Two were at shoulder level and two at head level. They too erupted, each of the four spikes creating a twelve meter explosion.

Meanwhile, the two spikes which initiated contact with the head had already fallen to forty meters. The purpose of the previously completed seals, as expected, was twofold. One of those spikes morphed its appearance, paper splitting to form five grenades ². As it used paper that had already been created, the process was rather quick. Immediately upon being formed, four grenades erupted, their explosion covering a twelve meter radius, like that of the spikes. As they were so closely together, their force was intense.. The last of the grenades flew to the center before erupting in an attempt to cause some damage to the Sage. Whether that last grenade could cover the distance was to be determined, for the Bear’s fiery aura began to spread.

The flames spread far, burning the flying man. As his body burst into flames, simple paper fell to the ground. The second bunshin in the distance, too, was burned. The remaining spikes could not explode as the fire also burned them ferociously.

The Hokage’s true self strode onto the battlefield, seventy meters away from the center of battle where the titan and Sage stood. His hands danced, fingers moving fluidly as he called forth three bunshin ten meters ahead of him. The bunshin mockingly imitated other shinobi in appearance. The first matched Ryusuke, the former Hokage. The second was formed after Bit Kuroso, another warrior fighting in the Upper Yard. And the last was perhaps the greatest mockery of all, for it was reminiscent of Kouketsu Uchiha. The clone shaped after Kouketsu begun its own seals to form pure white wings, carrying it into the skies. The first bunshin charged directly towards the center of the city, and the second approached from a leftward arc. All three moved at ten meters per second. Hundreds of sheets erupted from each of their bodies respectively, covering an area of ten meters long and wide as it hovered above them, moving forth with each clone. Additionally, each clone begun its own set of hand seals.

A thin layer of paper surrounded Jiyuu, its texture changing in a process similar to the one seen with the clone. As the paper clung closely to his skin, he began to blend in with the surroundings. Staying in the same position was rather foolish, hence he positioned himself ten meters to the rigt.

Hatoronshi Bakuha (Crafting Paper Explosive Addition), a shikigami conjures a ball of paper no larger than a fist and uses it as the catalyst of an explosion. The explosion caused by this technique is equal to the respective explosive radius of the user's
Hatoronshi Bakuha (Crafting Paper Explosive Addition). The grenade itself unless triggered through will by the Shikigami is useless, and will not explode if destroyed. It is as durable as ones Hatoronshi no Kami (Crafting Paper Skill), and is as resistant as ones Hatoronshi Genso (Crafting Paper Elemental Resistance). Every retraining of this technique allows you to use one more grenade per post, for a total of five.
Description: The Onmyoji, the original Paper Shikigami, were said to toss nothing but crumpled documents onto the floor and have them erupt into fiery explosive blazes at will. Revered and feared, their mastery of the paper arts was respected by anyone who saw.

With several series of hand seals, the Hokage allowed several of the paper bunshin out in the world to disperse. He could no longer bear that drain upon his body. The time had come to act. With but a single seal he called forth a shadow clone. The clone trotted to his office as its creator devoured a soldier pill. Truly, the time had come.

Kage Bunshin no Jutsu (Shadow Clone Technique)

"Why are you doing this? Jiyuu roared.

Even before the wall was forming, Jiyuu already began his next series of seals at a hastened pace due to his fine mastery over the Shikigami’s paper. To be exact, he resumed with the seals when the grenades were one second into their flight,. Previously, one grenade lingered ten meters ahead of him, not yet exploded. The control of the grenades required no hand seals, hence the motions that followed were quite fluid. The grenades took three seconds to cover the distance, and before they were even close to reaching the defensive wall, the next series of seals were completed two seconds into their flight. After all, there was a rather large period of time to act in the three seconds which passed until the grenades even reached their targets. The hand seals took only one second.

"You accomplish nothing. These men and women cannot even grip a blade. What does their destruction bring to you?"

Beginning the next technique so soon was only possible due to the grenades requiring nothing but mental commands to guide. Further, his foe was not particularly ferocious at the time, thankfully. If the Sage unleashed the same fury on Jiyuu as it had upon the city, his plan would likely have failed in its initial stages. These opponents were simply formidable. Before completion of the seals, the grenade previously ten meters away flew in a high arc to rise above the massive Sage summon and earth titan. It begun its arced flight only moments after it came to a halt, that time before the wall formed when the four grenades began their flight. Therefore it could cover the distance before the wall reached its full height. Additionally, with the speed at which it proceeded, ten meters per second it had yet another advantage with which it could close the distance before the wall reached its full height. It arrived one second after the other grenades at a height of seventy meters. That grenade was already at fifty meters when it begun its flight. But it did not explode. He held the seals. To reveal his plan in full, he would have to wait several moments.

The foe was truly a fine opponent. He not only controlled fierce bears, but a frightening titan more imposing than the mightiest of warriors. The grenade which was caught, of course, failed utterly in harming the titan. Dealing with this wall first was vital, else Jiyuu will be crushed. When the remaining grenade hovered over the Sage and Titan, the wall already reached its full height, absorbing the senbon. The concealment provided by the wall was used to his advantage, the purpose of the seals finally revealed. Two things occurred. First, the senbon blocked by the wall exploded, every single one of them, each eruption covering a radius of six meters¹ . As they were not equal distances apart, the explosion was not at its full spread of one hundred and twenty meters, but still it was fierce beyond reckoning in the small, localized area due to the stacking of explosive forces. The explosions roared loudly, rumbling the very grounds as it destroyed a ten meter section of the falling rock wall. Alone, each exploding senbon had no chance to cause any harm, but with twenty of them and their combined forces, that matter changed. Unfortunately this did not help in decreasing the damage the wall was but moments from causing on the Upper Yard. Many would still lose their lives in this battle, man against beast. No, beast against beast. Jiyuu was no man. He was a monstrosity. He simply fought on joyously as the citizen met their cruel ends. He could have saved them. But he did not. Jiyuu wished no harm to them, that would be utterly cruel after all, but he was not concerned with protecting them either. Whether that was because these victims did not belong to Konohagakure or because Jiyuu was simply a scoundrel no one knew. That was a question for another time, another day.

"This blood will be on your hands forever. As will it be on mine. The blood of the innocent is not something easy to carry on your shoulders. Of course they are simply the casualties of war. So is battle, but still, your conscience will be forever corrupted.

After with the explosions, the grenade which flew in a high arc above the Sage summon, their movement taking two seconds, transformed into ten spikes, each three meters long and ten meters wide, ends sharpened ². Also, a mass of paper ten meters long and wide flew from his body, splitting in half. One half dropped to the ground amongst the buildings and the second half flew in a high arc to approach the Sage from above in a manner similar to the last grenade. The first half, the one which flew towards the ground, attempted to approach the Sage and titan from the grounds, moving closely along the grounds in an attempt to stay concealed. The spikes descended at a rapid pace above where Jiyuu had previously seen the Sage Summon before the wall rose. Should the Sage not have moved, it would be exposed to the ten falling paper spikes. While each of the spikes was formidable, it was unlikely to cause serious damage to the Sage, but the Hokage hoped for at least something. He prayed for any sign, anything that proved his plan to be even slightly effective.

Jiyuu did use the mental control over the Shikigami papers to guide the spikes. Rather he allowed gravity to take control of them. If gravity took hold of the spikes, velocity gradually increased over the few seconds it would take to reach the Sage summon, therefore intensifying their impact damage. As the sage was so large, even with its crouched posture, the spikes would take even less time to reach, unfortunately it also lessened the force with which they can strike.. The spikes were spread in a rain of with a fifteen meters radius, each spike ten meters wide and three meters long. Hence, rather than each spike being directly next to another, they fell in layers, one above the other, each row containing two spikes. The Shikigami could freely manipulate the size of the paper at creation, and these bizarre proportions were used to cover an area more difficult to avoid. Jiyuu was hideously outmatched in this battle and his only hope was by exploiting the intimidating beasts size. The Hokage was fully aware that the beasts were much greater than he, but strangely, he felt no fear. He was not courageous by any means. Truthfully, Jiyuu did not know why he was not utterly afraid. Certainly he should be. He fought on.

Jiyuu himself continued to act as this all occurred. The wall, with a ten meter section blow out, would allow him to pass by without great difficulties. As the wall was so large, it not only covered Namyeol, but also Jiyuu, and the smoke of the explosion and destruction of rock provided further cover. Jiyuu, as he flew towards the falling wall, burst into a series of hand seals almost too quick for the eye to follow – assuming that any eyes could see through the thick layer of smoke caused by the explosion destroying part of the wall to begin with. The seals were quick and simple, taking half a second. The technique was surprisingly simple, designed entirely for subtlety, lacking the potency to cause harm by itself. He wove to the left and right, avoiding the broken rubble falling from the section of the wall which he blew out. Most of the wall remained, still. Jiyuu succeeded in only destroying a minuscule part of it, but that was enough to keep him from getting crushed. Thankfully, due to Jiyuu's proximity, he saw the collapsing rocks through the smoke. He was rather far away from the wall when it rose initially, but due to its massive size, he was rather close when it began to collapse due to presumably falling as any wall would, the topmost part descending first.

His mastery over the chakra of the Shikigami granted fine ability to use two techniques simultaneously, the purpose of both the same. The paper rain which fell from a height of seventy meters, blended in with the skies ³. Of course the spikes would contrast the buildings as it closes with the ground; the purpose of the camouflage was not to hide them amongst the building, but to blend the spikes in with the sky. Crouching, the Sage was still thirty meters, hence the spikes had only forty more meters to cover. Should one look directly up, the spikes were rather difficult to see due to being blended in with the skies. Should the Sage summon stand higher than the surrounding buildings, the spikes would be notably difficult to see as there were no structures nearby to contrast their altered appearance They were not impossible to see, but their exact position was much more difficult to determine with the slight alteration. These spikes were not only dangerous to the summon and titan, but to the scurrying citizen beneath. Jiyuu was utterly careless in his choice of technique. With the force of gravity and the height from which they fell, the spikes were sure to ram through the roof of buildings, crushing the hapless citizen beneath.

Also after the seals , the tone of Jiyuu’s figure changed completely ³ in a similar manner to the spikes, it adopted a bizarre shade completely unusual for any human, using exactly the same process as the concealment of the spikes. From that paper that changed on his body, a thin layer flew forward and hovered in front of him, flat side pointing directly ahead. This was a rather simple process, not only the change of the papers appearance, but the thin wall in-front of him as it was merely two meters long and wide, the minimal amount of paper he could create and it took but a single, large sheet directly flowing from his body from the paper that had already been changed. The Shikigami required time, and for that he best hide, and so was his intention. The appearance of the clone, the papers of which it consisted, its skin and clothing, altered to adopt the shade of the sky, blending in perfectly. Jiyuu was now twenty five meters away from the foe and fifty eight meters in the air, past the falling rock wall. The wall slammed into numerous buildings, continuing to send thick layers of dust into the sky. His wings beat slowly as he was blended in with the skies, dust enhancing his cover. Under the cover of both the dust and the camouflage, his hands already begun their next set of seals 4. While that slight movement made him somewhat easier to spot, he was still blended finely with the sky and dust. Additionally, the two meter sheet of paper hovered before him, also blended in with the sky from that same camouflaging of paper, further concealing him. The disguised sheet covered both his hand seals and beating of the wings. Still exploiting that cover, he flew towards the left. Repositioning was vital. He was now fifteen meters from where he previously hovered, at the height of sixty meters.

The creator of the clone stood fifty meters away on the outskirts, observing the scene. From his position he could not see what was happening on the ground, but that was not important - nay, what mattered was that he could see what was coming from the clone due to its elevated position.

Jiyuu ould have saved these citizen. But he felt no inclination to The man often viewed himself as a soldier, a man torn by war who fights so that others must not fight. That was simply a lie told to himself, a factitious truth derived from misjudged introspection. Jiyuu fought because he enjoyed the thrill of battle, no more. Here he felt alive. He was Hokage of the Leaf, but here found himself in a chaos, battling in a city his duty did not even require him to protect He chose to fight in a battle that was not his. He did not know who called forth these beasts, nor why. It did not matter. He felt a distorted, bizarre love for the summoner for he returned the Hokage to the state he was meant to be in. Fighting. Primeval. Relying on his instincts. Jiyuu has never felt alive as he did in the heat of battle.

The flames of hell will surely await him. Still, this was his home. War. There was no better place for him than this.
