If the others were huge, then this thing was Gigantic, and while its subordinates had looked like large grizzly bears, this one looked like the mix between a bear and rhinoceros. There were large horns jutting out from the fiends head, and it too stood on both feet. Where did these come from?! What land could possibly host animals such as this? He had heard of scary beings living in the forest of death, but this was something different.

Nevertheless, there was no time for backing down or even pausing. He’d continue his assault on the lesser creatures, though now began to pace himself. He knew the fight he was bound to have with the leader would sap him of all the stamina he had. The 24 had dwindled down, now at a meager 7, but they were coming as strong as ever. He had a few minor wounds, but nothing serious that couldn’t be dealt with later.

It came to the point when he and the leader were the only ones left. His Byakugan stared into the colossal beings eyes, simultaneously performing the hand-seals needed for Fukumi Hari. He hadn’t used a jutsu yet, for any of his missions, but felt like it was time. He’d mold chakra to his mouth as the beast began to charge. They were about 20 meters away, giving him time to gather the chakra and spit out 5 chakra needles aimed at the monster’s neck.

They’d all hit, piercing his hard skin in several different places; but it did nothing to stop it. Haru would roll to the left as it came near, narrowly avoiding it’s lethal horns. One false move and he was done for, the young Hyūga would take his time, waiting for the being to charge while he gathered more chakra. This time in the form of taijutsu, and after a few seconds it became visible as a white coating around his palm.

The civilians all watched him as he made his way along the worn trail; it was weird, as if they’d never seen an outsider before. He produced a small smile, wanting to make sure he didn’t come off as mean in front of these people. A few of the men laughed as he walked past, though once he looked over they stopped. All in all, it was a very harsh atmosphere, and towards the end of the trail someone even threw a handful of dirt at him.

After a few more paces, he’d enter the tent, relieved to get away from everyone out there. Standing before him now was a tall, sturdy looking man, with broad shoulders and muscles popping out from everywhere. He wore a small crown on the top of his head, I guess he’s the leader here..? It almost made him laugh, why would you take pride in ruling something as small as this? Nonetheless, he wouldn’t show it, but instead take a seat and wait.

The group of men, including the leader, all talked in a small huddle. They stared back and forth, from eachother to Haru and back to eachother. It made the young Genin uncomfortable, though he dare not say anything this deep within their little society. Eventually, the one in charge would take a seat in front of him, the others surrounding the Hyūga with swords. He’d observe Haru with a look of disgust, pausing at the hitae-ate on his arm, and then speak
.
“Ahh, Konoha.. You got our reports then."

“Yes sir, I’m here to get rid of those beasts.”

The room erupted with laughter.

“HA!! Get rid? One Konoha Shinobi, taking on those things. HAHA!”

“Ninja aren't as weak as you think, I can handle the-“

“-HAHA! You hear that?! He can handle them!! HA!“

“Just tell me about these animals, I know they killed one of yo-“

“-more than one.. They’ll kill you too.. I guess it won’t hurt to inform you anyways… We don’t know where they came from, but it’s been war ever since. Their leader is worse than the rest, bigger, stronger.. He won’t come out until you’ve killed a few.. There were about 30 when they first came. We’ve killed a few, they’ve killed even more of us...”

“Why hasn’t that been reported??”

“Seeing as your gonna die soon, I’ll tell you. We reported one killing so they’d send one Shinobi.. This way, atleast we can get a few laughs before they overtake us.”

“That’s not right… I’ll take care of them, you’ll see..”

“Ha, no.. you’ll be slaughtered just like everyone else.. Haha, now leave.”

Listening to the man’s words wouldn’t help Haru, he was obviously a bit delusional, probably from the stress. It didn’t really matter, he’d prove to the civilians that Shinobi were still as powerful as ever. He knew he’d be able to take these things down, though the talk of a boss animal had sort of intimidated him. Not to the point of him backing down though, which he figured was the civilian’s reason for telling him; he wasn’t worried, his katana was sharp enough to cut through anything.

As he expected, after a few more hours of traveling he had finally reached his destination. Getting back wouldn’t be fun, but he was more focused on exterminating these pests from Hi no Kuni for now. They had killed a civilian, which was more than enough to anger the boy. His Byakugan had been activated already, and he was now surveying the soon-to-be battlefield; it was a large, open expanse filled with separate packs of these large beasts.

From afar, they were no more than the size of his thumb; but zooming in with his Byakugan, he saw that these things were, in fact, about two or three times the size of him. They looked like oversized grizzly bears, and a lot of them seemed to be standing on two feet. He had read it, but seeing these creatures up close was completely different; and while he didn’t doubt himself, he knew it’d be much more challenging than he’d anticipated.

He wouldn’t be able to rush in the middle of them and start hacking away, there were simply too much. These beasts didn’t have the same feelings as humans — if they saw him, they would kill him. Consequently, he decided starting on one end, and working his way through would be better. Moreover, he also chose to wait until night; because, unless they had some sort of night vision, they’d be at a bigger disadvantage than he.

He’d make his way around the large plain, hidden in the shadows of large bushes and small trees in an attempt to scout the area. It would also be a good thing to figure the total number of animals he’d be dealing with, which would be made possible with his Kekkai Genkai. As he continued to inspect the region, he saw a small development on the outskirts of the plain. He’d guessed that was where the beasts had attacked, because there now stood a crudely built fort all around it.

Eventually, he’d make a permanent departure from his home village; still, for now he’d have to focus on keeping up with his duties as a Genin, and Hyūga. Seeing that his mission was about to commence, he’d take the time to sit down and go over everything it entailed. He’d set his katana beside him, which would be useful in slaying the beasts, then sling his knapsack from off his back and into his lap. Once done, he’d pull out the note with a lengthy description.

Attached to the slip he’d been given with the mission information, was a small map and list documenting where these beasts had been seen. Fortunately, they were all concentrated into one area, towards the outskirts of Hi no Kuni. Unfortunately, It was a very long journey from the targets to his current location. He estimated that, if he did a combination of jogging and sprinting, it’d probably take two days.

There were a few other things in the bag, including camping equipment, and after checking it a few more times he’d gather everything back up and head on out. Traversing through the various trails in the dense forests of Hi no Kuni would have been a problem, if not for his Kekkai Genkai. He’d make sure to activate it, and then begin the long trek. The strange noises made by the forest animals startled the boy, but he adjusted to it after a while.

It had seemed like a fun mission back at the Hokage tower, but he wasn’t too sure now that he was here. Any anxiety he may have had was worked out of him from all of the running; especially when the sun began to rise. One good thing about traveling in the day was he didn’t have to worry about being mauled by any creatures, as there were other ninja, and non-ninja, also traveling to and from Konohagakure.

They’d continue to cut through the streets of Konoha, Haru paid close attention to Shinobu as they journeyed on. It was obvious he wasn’t planning on saying anything, which wouldn’t come as a shocker; it was more of a hope for the young boy, not reality. However, he wouldn’t speak either, for now, but instead observe the village around him; they were now walking into a more spaced out part of town, with a few fields in the near vicinity.

It wasn’t until they were halfway through it that he noticed the Genin’s bandages once again, wondering how he’d forgotten such blatant things. Shinobu doesn’t need to be walking like this… why have I been so careless..? This would hit him hard, as it almost felt like something one of the elder Sōke would do in punishment. To right his wrong, he’d signal for the Konoha-nin to come his way, and then lead them into a large field.

It was a vast space on the edge of Konoha, there were a few trees here and there, but a ton of benches and picnic tables. He’d take a seat at the table nearest them, hinting for his acquaintance to do the same. The area they were in wasn't too crowded, so they'd be able to still hear eachother clearly. He'd scan the area as he sat there, watching the tons of ordinary kids walking by, laughing about with other friends, or parents; they were the only ninja around.

He’d take the time to think on something that’d been secretly gnawing at him over the past few days. Ever since his last mission, when the idea of leaving this village for another, more powerful one entered his head. Konoha was a place full of civilians, he couldn't believe it was the Powerhouse village it once was. Haru wanted to live somewhere he could truly develop as a Genin. As he contemplated, it made him wonder something else…

“I have another question, if you’re forced to work so hard as a Bunke member, this may sound crazy, but listen… why not leave? why not go to another hidden village where you can lead a normal Shinobi's life. They wouldn’t activate your seal, it’s not betraying them by moving, I’m sure other’s have done it before you…”

He’d pause for a second, holding back the last part, as he hadn’t told anyone what he wanted to do yet. Following several moments of thinking, he decided Shinobu probably wouldn’t tell anyone, and he felt that he’d already went this far and needed to let it out. Looking around once more to make sure noone was eavesdropping, he'd then speak in a hushed tone; almost at a whsiper, but still audible.

“… I plan on it.”

Haru would begin pushing his cart full of ramen out of the shop; he was equipped and ready for the deliveries to commence. His first location was towards the corner of the town, not too far away from where he was now. Before setting off, he’d look around, surveying the environment as he always did. It was a nice day out, with smiling people walking everywhere around him; he’d produce a smile himself, and head on out to his first customer.

As he traveled, the young Hyūga’s mind began to revert back to those previous thoughts of a new village. Leaving Konoha wasn’t something that’d be taken lightly, even if it was with the Hokage’s permission. And it was the fact that, even if he wanted to move, this place would still be sorely missed. He’d grew fond of it; and other than his clan, it was the only thing he’d ever sworn allegiance to. This was a hard decision, as it would shape the rest of his life.

Before he knew it, Haru was at the customer’s house, and had knocked on their door. He’d deliver the ramen with a smile, and head on out to the next location. It was pretty far, he'd take a deep breath, and then leave for the second customer. Again, he'd arrive with the ramen, and leave for another. It wasn't long before the thoughts crept back into his head, and he again began to contemplate on whether or not he should leave.

All through the academy, he’d worked to one day bear the title of Konoha Genin. He’d only been one for days, and already wanted to dismiss this for another village? It sounded odd, but he knew if he stayed, he would only hurt himself. There just weren’t enough powerful ninja in this town anymore; he had a gut feeling that moving was the only thing he could do. He could possibly join a Genin squad, but even the idea of being around more ninja excited Haru.

And then something struck him, what would his clan think? What would his parents say when he told them he was leaving, and probably wouldn’t return? There was no way he could persuade them, but simply escaping in the middle of the night wouldn’t work either. He would most likely be hunted, and Haru wasn’t sure if he was strong enough to fend for himself yet. He would leave Konoha eventually though, he wouldn’t be left behind by the other ninja his age.

“I can’t stay here..”

He was at the next destination before he knew it, the young Hyūga would deliver the ramen with a smile, and then journey to the next house. It continued like this for about two hours; in which, he’d delivered all of the ramen. Upon turning the cart back in, he was gifted with a bowl of ramen, and then shoo’ed away so other ninja could come in. Haru smiled once more, and then headed back to the Hokage tower, the idea of running away still heavy on his mind

Haru would exit the Hokage tower in the same way he’d done every other day, ready and prepared to begin his next job. As he began to move forward, the young Hyūga could be seen wearing a slender, white long-sleeve shirt, slim black pants, and low-cut, black nin-sandals; he had his Katana strapped along his back, and a small hitae-ate fastened around his left upper arm. His blank expression searched the village, contemplating on where he’d begin his next mission.

It was much lighter than any of the one’s he’d recently been on, as it entailed simply making ramen deliveries around the village. It was a task he’d saved for when he needed to cool down, and just take a break from the C-ranks. Both of his previous assignments had been very taxing; one forced him to spend a scorching hot day cleaning others graffiti off the walls, and the other actually tracking and capturing the criminals that’d done it.

While those were, at the time, fun missions, the aftermath left Haru exhausted and ready to go to sleep. Doing tasks like these, he would be able to finish it and complete one or two more in the same day. He’d visited Ichiraku’s a few times before, and knew it was probably the best ramen shop in town. It was constantly bustling with people; there was never a time when the little hut was empty. He knew it was only a matter of time before they ran out of ingredients, and would need help so they could get them.

The Konoha-nin would gladly assist them in their time of need; probably more so if they offered him a bowl of ramen in return. He liked missions like this, because it was something he could be calm while doing, and not constantly on edge. The young boy would head that way, bringing with him a nicely drawn map of the village, just to make sure he didn’t get lost on his way around town. It'd be a long walk, but he was ready to begin the day.

As he made the long trek to the other side of Konoha, he began to reflect on what he'd done so far. He'd completed several missions, and had enjoyed them all. However, he didn't think there was much to gain out of all of this; it wasn't helping him to develop as a ninja, really. He'd read about other villages before, the different things they did to prep their young Genin, and began to want that for himself.
