This is not possible.
So ran the thoughts of Fushoku Shiro as he gazed up at the gate of Kusagakure no Sato. Once, it had laid in ruins, its great door smashed down and burned. Only a skeleton of the mighty construction had remained. Things had changed since then. The gate was rebuilt, standing obdurate against the outside world once more. Where once there had been only corpses, now the gates were staffed by the living shinobi of Kusagakure. It didn't seem possible, but here were warriors bearing the same mark he did on their headbands, on their masks.
I must have died.
It was the only thing he could think of. He felt numb, not really paying attention as the guards verified his identity. He could hardly remember the interview, the welcoming words. He could only think that he was dreaming, that these were the last dying thoughts of a delusional mind. It simply made no sense. How could a village have simply sprung up in the short time since his last visit to the former gravesite? It boggled the mind. He had to speak to someone. He had to find the leader of this... place.
With quivering steps, he entered the village, leaving the gate behind him with slow steps. He could still feel the eyes of the sentries on him, ensuring that he was acting with integrity. It had been a long time since he'd felt the sense of security at his back that comrades provided. He didn't know what to do. He didn't know what to think. He simply stepped inside the village and sat down, right in the middle of the path, staring out at the buildings before him. Some were still broken, but others were repaired. It was Kusagakure.
It was home.
