The sage was a pompous ass, but it would appear that in his own roundabout way he had the ninja’s best interest at heart. It was a commendable message that he tried to instill, but one Asa had learned long ago. The only difference was, that the sage didn’t seem to have the moral discrimination that Asa did when it came to choosing who to kill or not. The sage seemed to think that lethal force was the only answer to injustice and that simply wasn’t the case in Asa’s mind. With great skill the sage shot forth, no longer caring what Asa had to say in retaliation. Their philosophies would be expressed by their fists apparently.
The sage seemed to vanish, Asa’s crimson eyes no longer being able to hold onto his image. Suddenly to his left he caught a flash of movement. The blade came whistling through the air seeking Asa’s flesh. He had no place to move, with such little warning. The blade struck his left bicep, sinking in a few inches and stopping. His armor was quite useful. The earthen substance that made it up held the blade fast and Asa’s right arm would swing with a purpose in an effort to slam against the broad side of the sword, trying to shatter it with his increased strength. Whether or not he succeeded, and whether or not he could still see the sage after his retaliation, Asa would yell out to him with a forceful shout.
“Protecting those you care about, and killing are mutually exclusive. Killing isn’t the only way to protect someone. For example, right now I’m not going to kill you, and yet I’ll still protect my kinsmen over there. It’s a little harder sure, but it’s infinitely better for your soul. Perhaps you should try it. Killing is only acceptable in the pursuit of justice, and when there is no other course of action available to you.”
Asa was unsure of how the sage would defend against his counter, but he would attempt to watch with his crimson eyes. Hopefully his brother in arms was able to handle himself in the mean time.
